About "Squid Game"

"We were looking for shows that were different from what's traditionally 'made it,' and Squid Game is exactly it". -Kim Minyoung (Content Officer, Netflix Asia).

Squid Game is a South Korean drama series created by Hwang Dong-hyuk and was released in September 2021 on Netflix. The title of the series is adopted from a popular Korean children's game. Squid Game presents 456 indebted players, risking their lives to win prize money of 45.6 billion Won. The series attracted more than 142 million viewers and became the most-watched Netflix series of all time.

Hwang said in an interview with variety that he created the series based on his personal experiences and observations of capitalism and economic class struggles within South Korea. While the economy is booming worldwide, it does not always come as blessing for lower or lower-middle-class population.
